MOMS DEMAND ACTION NAMES JENNIFER LEEPER A GUN SENSE CANDIDATE OF DISTINCTION
Gun safety and responsible gun ownership highlighted as priorities
The Connecticut chapter of Moms Demand Action has named Jennifer Leeper a 2020 Gun Sense Candidate of Distinction. Leeper is running for State Representative in the 132nd Assembly District which includes the towns of Fairfield and Southport.
Moms Demand Action, originally founded the day after the Sandy Hook shooting, has nearly 6 million supporters, chapters in all 50 states and Washington D.C., and is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country.
As the 2020 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate, Leeper has committed to governing with gun sense as a priority if elected into office.
“Keeping our students safe from gun violence is more important than ever as they return to school during these unprecedented times,” Leeper said. “Connecticut must remain the state that leads the country in prioritizing the safety of its children and communities.”
Leeper also noted that while gun safety is often a national issue, there is plenty of work for the Connecticut General Assembly to do to prevent more gun violence tragedies in our schools, communities and urban centers. She cited the state must continue conversations surrounding gun violence and gun safety legislation in the face of the pandemic as it remains a priority.
On Wednesday, September 16th Leeper and three other local Gun Sense Candidates participated in a 2020 Local Election Kickoff to introduce the candidates to local Moms Demand Action volunteers in the Fairfield, Connecticut area.
